The Fray sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Monday night’s NCAA Finals, but many believe not all that well. Their stripped-down acoustic take only received a polite applause, and was attacked on the web almost immediately after. Many feel the guitars -- which did not seem to be in synch with each other -- was what killed it.

“The words are familiar but surely not the music,” one Youtube poster wrote. “Don't rearrange the music, don't try to make it ‘your own,’” added another. Yahoo! and the Houston Chronicle called their rendition "dreadful", and The Washington Post dubbed it "a version that made you want to curl up in the corner and drunk text an ex." (???)
