Dia de los Muertos Festival Returns to Historic Concordia Cemetery

The largest Día de los Muertos celebration in El Paso is taking place downtown on the last Saturday in October, but those looking to honor loved ones who have passed on a smaller scale can do so at Dia de los Muertos at Concordia Cemetery.

The cool thing about this Day of the Dead celebration is that it’s the only one in El Paso held in a cemetery, which is the traditional setting for Dia de los Muertos observances in Mexico.

2023 Dia De Los Muertos at Concordia Cemetery

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, honors loved ones who have passed away and is typically celebrated on November 1 and 2.

But because this year those dates fall on a Wednesday and Thursday, the Concordia Heritage Association – organizers of the gathering – is holding its celebration on Saturday, November 4, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A dusk fire dance and an ofrenda presentation featuring Danza Azteca Cuitlahuac will be part of the event, as well as live music from Mariachi Flores Mexicanas, King Octopus, and several other entertainers, per the event post.

The event will include face painting, vendors and food trucks, and a community ofrenda which will be located just inside the main gate that will be available to anyone who wants to honor a loved one who passed away with photos or other gifts and offerings.

• $10 at the gate/$10 plus fees if purchased online

Tickets will be sold at the Yandell entrance to the cemetery the day of the event. Proceeds benefit Concordia Heritage Association which maintains, preserves and protects the historic cemetery.
