Get ready to pay more for your water bill this year. El Paso Water Utility officials say you can expect an average of increase of about $4.25 each month beginning in March.

The water utility says the increase will be used to continue building flood protection infrastructure and to fund more reservoirs, pump stations, and to drill wells because the population of El Paso is expected to increase by more than 40% by 2040, and they need to get ready for that growth.

There is also an increase for water and wastewater rates.

Mayor Oscar Leeser sits on the board that approved the increase. He said that he approved of the stormwater flooding infrastructure rate increase because it will help improve public safety, but he voted against the new water and wastewater rates.
