Parents of YISD student athletes who were hoping to see them play in person will have to wait a bit longer for the time being.  In light of the rapidly rising cases of coronavirus in El Paso, YISD officials have made the decision to not allow fans at sporting events effective immediately.

This includes football and volleyball games scheduled for Friday, October 2.  Unfortunately for some students and their families, the Senior Nights YISD had scheduled for this weekend will not be happening at this time.

As of today, only athletes, coaches, game officials, and school administrators will be allowed at games.  Other student groups that typically are a part of games such as JROTC, band, cheer, and dance teams will also not be able to attend.

YISD families of middle school soccer or tennis athletes are also finding themselves with some unexpected extra time on their hands.  Those particular games and tournaments that were schedule for Saturday have been cancelled altogether.

As we’ve all come to find out, situations change, and new plans sometimes have to be made in a hurry as this pandemic continues its rollercoaster-like path of rapidly increasing and decreasing positive cases.  Just this week, I posted information on who would be allowed at high school sporting events around town but obviously that quickly became outdated.

My hearts go out to these families that would love nothing more to support and cheer their children on in person.  It’s an even tougher situation for these students who no doubt will keep glancing at the stands knowing that for now at least, they won’t see any familiar faces there.  Hopefully, that will change before their seasons end.
