Who Else Can Relate When Your Lunch & Pens Go Missing At Work?
Has anyone else had their lunch or pens go missing at work because a coworker swiped them out from under you?
I recently stored a 'Bubly' sparkling water in our lunch room fridge so it could get cold enough to enjoy on my way out of work.
Much to my surprise, the can was missing, but a thoughtful note was left behind from a coworker (Buzz Adams) saying that he didn't mean to drink it but inadvertently opened it and realized after the fact he had reached for the wrong drink.
Usually, I don't leave any lunch or drinks in our break room to avoid mix-ups or having someone steal them right out of the fridge.
In this case, it was really nice of Buzz, who later approached me saying that it was an accident and that he didn't mean to take my soda water, but it looked similar to his beverage, and he didn't think twice about it until he had a taste.
He even went above and beyond to ask which Bubly product was my favorite so he could replace it with a full pack. Thanks, Buzz!
Disappearing lunches at work is so common that almost nothing gets done about it outside of a memo reminding employees to mind their manners. Who wants to eat someone else's lunch? What if I'm allergic to an ingredient, or worse, what if it's gross?
Pens are also one of the most popular items that disappear at work. One minute you're using your pen, and the next, it's gone. Granted, I, too, have been guilty of walking away with a pen or two, and if it's a fancy one, I'll make sure to hand it back.
But honestly, if it's a station-labeled pen, I'll keep using it until it gets swiped from my desk, and the cycle repeats itself.
While not all workplace thefts happen on purpose, as with my soda water, I appreciated Buzz trying to rectify the mishap.
Chime in, has anyone ever replaced your lunch or item from the fridge after taking it or given back your pen after they walked off with it? Or are you the one that swipes all the stuff from work and never looks back? Share we'd love to hear from you.
