If you've already started thinking about trying stand-up comedy then you have probably already had a few fun ideas in mind. But if not, then just take some time to sit down and brainstorm all the funny ideas you can come up with.
3. Organize/ Write
The most important thing to do is write some material. Just to have it down on paper, on your phone, or on your computer. It doesn't haven't to be funny, and in all honestly, you won't know till you try, but having those thoughts outside your head and organized somewhere is uber importante.
4. Make A Plan/ Practice
After doing all of your research, organizing your thoughts, and writing your jokes down, make a plan to attend local open mics you've found through your research, find out the times, and maybe ask a friend to save the night so you can finally scratch that stand-up itch!
5. Commit/ Just Do It
You'll constantly be coming up with reasons not to go up. Just get it over with and DO IT! I guarantee you'll know if you like it and if it was fun after that first time.
6. Don't Wait
I can't even count the number of times people have come up to me and told me they have always thought about trying to stand up comedy because all of their friends tell them how funny they are. So why not do it, and prove your friends right (or wrong)?
7. Pay Attention/ Learning/ Mentors
A good piece of advice for anyone, but especially in comedy, is to look at the people who are successful at what you want to do and try to emulate them or at LEAST ask for some pointers. Having someone show you the ropes can be the difference between sinking or swimming.
8. All of the Places In El Paso
Here is every place in El Paso you can sign up at their open mics.
9. Rinse Repeat
Do it again and again and again! That's how jokes are built!
