Picture this: it's late in the afternoon and you're by the lake at Ascarate. As the sun begins to set in the El Paso sky, hundreds of lighted lanterns begin to float away quietly as their soft glow reflects upon the water.

Well, you don't have to imagine such a calming scene; experience it for yourself at the Water Lantern Festival returning to El Paso this spring. On Saturday, March 28, 2020, Ascarate Lake inside Ascarate Park will once again be transformed into a spectacular wonderland of floating lights when the event hits town.

Along with the Zen-like experience of releasing lanterns onto the water, festival attendees can also enjoy great food from some of El Paso's favorite food trucks, music, and no doubt some pretty magical photo opps.

Tickets for "the premier water lantern festival" are on sale now and can be purchased at the event website. Each adult ticket gets you entry into the festival area, a floating water lantern, and a marker so you can design your lantern.

And just in case you're wondering, because I'm sure there will be some who will question the safety of hundreds of objects released onto the lake many ducks and trout call home, the lanterns will be cleaned up afterwards. "In addition," the website states, "they are 100% eco-friendly made of wood and rice paper."
