N. Mesa Near UTEP Site of First El Paso Johnny Rockets Location
El Paso's first Johnny Rockets location will be just up the street from the UTEP campus.
The El Paso Development News website reports that a permit to build at 2119 N. Mesa was recently solicited by the Cruzar Group. That's the company that announced last July it had signed a deal to open several Johnny Rockets restaurants in the El Paso area.
Per EPDNews:
A permit has been requested from the City of El Paso for a new commercial building at 2119 N. Mesa Street by the Cruzar Group with a project name of "Johnny Rockets."
The North Mesa address cited is currently a vacant lot across from Whataburger on Mesa and University that was once a Chevron gas station.
It's unclear if this possible location would be for a sit-down restaurant or the company's new Route 66 drive-through concept. The Cruzar Group's announcement last year said at least one of the locations would be a drive-through.
Johnny Rockets is a theme restaurant that specializes in “classic hamburgers” and “world-famous” hand-dipped shakes. Its restaurants are known for their 1950s diner-style décor and its dancing servers.
