The upcoming holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year with folks out and about shopping, traveling and meeting up with family and friends, but the reality is that the current global health crisis requires that we reconsider our traditional holiday plans.

COVID-19 is still very much alive and well in the United States, especially here in El Paso, where the number of new cases has been steadily on the rise, according to data from El Paso County Public Health.

With the help of our friends at the University Medical Center of El Paso, we've compiled this list of 5 very simple things you can do to keep not only yourself but also those around you safe from COVID-19 around the holidays.

Mask up

Even if you aren't experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, you may still be infected, and wearing a mask or cloth face covering that goes over your nose and mouth will help protect you from spreading the virus to those around you in public settings.

Wash those hands

According to the CDC, you should be washing your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds. If you're not near a sink, sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol will do until you can properly wash your hands.

Stay 6 feet away

Being in close contact with others is a good way to spread the virus, so practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from others, which is about two arm lengths, when possible.

Disinfect often

Keep your home clean by disinfecting objects and surfaces that get touched frequently like doorknobs, light switches, tabletops, sinks, keyboards, phones, etc. The EPA's website has a list of disinfectants that are effective against coronavirus.

Monitor your health

Making sure you're staying in good health is an effective measure against COVID-19 and getting regular check-ups and exams are a great way to do just that. Book an appointment for a health screening with UMC today by giving them a call at 915-544-1200.
