An El Paso County resident was one number away from winning a share of the over 1 Billion dollar jackpot in Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing (8/08/23).

But don’t feel too sorry for him or her. He or she is still an instant millionaire.

The lucky local (presumably) bought a Quick Pick ticket at the In N Out Gas Station on Alameda in Socorro that matched all five of the white ball numbers drawn, but not the gold Mega Ball number, which resulted in the waaaaay lower payday.

But, hey, a million bucks is still a pretty good return on a $2 investment – even after gifting the government 40 to 50 percent in taxes.

I say ‘presumably’ because it could have been a Mexican national or an out-of-town truck driver.

Along with the newly prosperous Socorro, Texas prizewinner, a $1 million winning ticket was also sold in Austin at Circle K #2741302, located at 8205 Brodie Lane.

A single ticket sold in Florida matched all six numbers bringing the unprecedented jackpot run to an end after 31 drawings without a big win.

The Floridian won a jackpot estimated at $1.58 billion ($783.3 million cash if he or she took the cash option).

No word on the identity of the El Paso County millionaire yet or what the plan is for his or her newfound wealth.

Maybe something extravagant like a new home with refrigerated air and a pool, or perhaps something that used to be just out of reach when you were making just enough to get by, like quilted, ultra-plush toilet paper.

Now that’s living the dream. Good for you, nouveau riche El Pasoan.

Even though your identity is still a secret, I’m pretty sure we’re related. So, can I borrow a few bucks? I promise I’ll pay you back. No, really, I will.
