The Alphabet Should Actually Be In THIS Order
As the parent of small children learning the alphabet, I've been having a lot of thoughts about the order of it. So many thoughts, that I thought I should share with the masses.
Who came up with the original order of the alphabet?
Well, according to webspace.edu, the original alphabet was developed by a Semitic people living in or near Egypt. They based it on the idea developed by the Egyptians, but used their own specific symbols. It was quickly adopted by their neighbors and relatives to the east and north, the Canaanites, the Hebrews, and the Phoenicians.
It just seems like there are a couple of egregious errors, or at least missed opportunities.
In case you need a refresher... below is the correct order of the original alphabet.
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Now... I give you the version as it should have been. There are 2 key differences. To be specific, there are 2 spots where the letters swap, moving 4 total letters.
ABCDFEGHIJKLNMOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Am I wrong in saying that the F is just a pre-E? That the N is just an unfinished M? The logic is there. The people (me) have spoken. It makes sense. It flows.
One final key point to my argument is that this does not affect the tune, tenor, flow, melody, key, or tone of the Alphabet Song. I will not tell a lie... changing F to E is no easy task, but it's definitely something that can be adapted to easily. I would say simply singing the song 4-5 times in a row. That should do it. The N/M change is barely noticeable on the tongue.
There you have it!
