From El Paso, TX to Seattle: What’s Next for KFOX-TV’s Liz Dueweke?

El Pasoans tend to form a strong bond with their local TV news anchors, welcoming them into their homes every morning, afternoon, and night. I know I did growing up—whenever a familiar face was missing, I’d find myself asking, "Where did they go?!"

After over 10 years in the TV industry, I’ve come to understand that news anchors don’t always stay at one station forever—and that’s not a bad thing!

Life happens, new opportunities arise, and for some, it’s a chance to return home if they came from out of town. It’s all part of the journey!

From Seattle To El Paso:

Most recently, KFOXTV shared an announcement that shocked many of their viewers. The post was a photo of evening news anchor Liz Dueweke with a caption that read:

“Tonight will be Liz Dueweke’s last newscast on KFOX14. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors, we’re going to miss you, Liz!”

 

I met Liz back in August of 2023 when she first made her way to El Paso to begin her new career as KFOX’s evening anchor alongside Robert Holguin.

The KISS-FM team was able to put together a special surprise for Liz to welcome her to El Paso: A surprise visit from Amigo Man!

I would then run into Liz at other local events and we even shared the cover of the July issue of the City Magazines “Gems of Journalism” alongside other local talented journalists in the city.

Every encounter with Liz was always a pleasant one! And it was so great to see El Paso embrace the newest addition to the KFOX team and it was even greater to see Liz embrace the city!

Where is Liz Going?

After I came across an online article speculating why Liz was leaving KFOX, I decided to reach out personally to Liz and ask her where she would be heading!

If you’re looking for any juicy gossip, you won’t find it here. An official source from the station assured me that Liz’s departure was NOT due to the recent changes at Sinclair or any cut backs. 

Liz is simply heading back to Seattle and she has nothing put positive things to say about her time spent in El Paso and the people she worked with:

“I’m just going back to Seattle. And Kfox was lovely and understanding about everything. It’s a good group of people there. But that’s really it. I’m not ready to announce anything else though.” 

Liz also shared a statement with her 22.4K followers on Instagram to assure them that there was nothing scandalous behind her departure from KFOX writing:

“There is no need for rumors, speculations or gossip. Good things are happening! I’m on my way back to Seattle and I will forever have a spot in my heart for my KFOX people.”

 

El Paso Will Miss you, Liz:

In the year that Liz was here in El Paso she made sure to take in all the city had to offer! From her morning bike rides, to attending local events, and even adopting a rescue dog from El Paso Animal Services.

The TV world is not an easy world to live in

Change can be tough, and it’s easy to assume something negative is behind it. I’ve been guilty of that too. But one thing viewers often forget is that the people they see every day on TV are human. For news personalities, moving from city to city is part of the job—gaining experience and finding the perfect fit.

Some news anchors land that dream job right away, while others take a little longer. Just like in any other career, they’re allowed to explore options. The difference? Their lives are in the public eye, and viewers often feel they deserve an explanation for every move. While that’s understandable, TV personalities are also entitled to some privacy.

El Paso wishes Liz all the best, and soon a new face will join Robert Holguin on the evening anchor desk. Stay tuned!
