The Ysleta Independent School District has suspended the meal service program at Del Valle Middle School after family members of a school employee tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the district statement, the employee has not tested positive.

“However, out of an abundance of caution,” the message continues, “YISD is taking several aggressive measures to safeguard the public health, including the immediate suspension of the Grab & Go meal service program at Del Valle Middle School.” Meals will now be available at Del Valle High School until further notice.

In the video message posted below, YISD Superintendent Dr. Xavier De La Torre explained that the worker notified school officials on Tuesday (4/7) that two of his family members were confirmed positive for the coronavirus on Monday, April 6.

De La Torre added the employee and all the co-workers the employee had contact with were asked to stay home and self-quarantine for two weeks.

He emphasized they all wore protective gear and maintained their distance when they were handing out meals.
