SISD Announces New 2020 Commencement Dates + Outdoor Venue

The Socorro Independent School District will be celebrating its 2020 senior classes in outdoor commencement ceremonies in July, the district has announced.

In a video message posted Saturday, May 30, Superintendent Jose Espinoza announced plans for in-person commencement ceremonies for the district’s eight high schools that will all take place at the Socorro Student Activities Center from July 16 to July 25.

Espinosa added the details are currently under review by local health and city authorities and will be revealed once the go-ahead is given. More than likely, SISD’s ceremonies will include social distancing guidelines, face covering requirements and a limited number of guests per graduate, much like the template the El Paso Independent School District is moving forward with.

The changes in times, dates, and venue supersede plans announced in April before the state announced schools could not hold indoor graduation ceremonies in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

July 16 - Mission ECH 8 a.m./El Dorado High 8p.m.
July 17 - Pebble Hills 8p.m, with
July 18 - Socorro 8 p.m.
July 23 – Option 8a.m/Eastlake 8p.m.
July 24 - Montwood 8p.m
July 25 - Community Education 8a.m./Americas 8p.m.
