Sinful to Heavenly Trend: Former Texas Bars Are Becoming Churches
Seems like a new trend is starting in Texas where former bars and strip clubs are becoming churches just like Graham Central Station in Odessa becoming Stonegate.
If you have lived in Odessa/Midland for any length of time, you remember from 1998 to 2016 when Graham Central Station was the place to party in Odessa.
I have been there myself several times to do remotes at Wildcats, Denim & Diamonds, Zazoo's, and Alley Cats and stumbling in on some sinful stuff like people having sex in the restrooms or even snorting cocaine.
Now that same building is preaching the gospel, I am hoping that they had someone come in and do an exorcism of the building before it opened as a church after 18 years of lust, gluttony, and wrath (3 of the 7 deadly sins) that was happening in that building.
But not only Graham Central Station in Odessa went from sinful to heavenly, but just recently a former strip club in El Paso has now opened up as a church.
Our sister station KLAQ in El Paso has an article up about a former strip club called the Lamplighter Lounge which is now a church on the east side of El Paso.
The listeners of KLAQ chimed in to say it was not a place you would want to stay, one quote from a listener said "Lamplighter was a place you would walk in...and walk right out!"
Well, now it is a place where you can walk in and repent for the sins you committed when it was a strip club, possibly being able to put your money in the offering plate in the same place that you used to stuff money in a stripper's g-string.
To go along with that, Graham Central Station is now a place to repent for snorting that cocaine in the bathroom while being in the same bathroom where you snorted that cocaine years ago.
Who says life doesn't come full circle?!
