Heads up El Paso motorists, Scenic Drive will be closed half the day today, beginning at 6 a.m. for road repairs.

Scenic Drive is closed today to take care of road maintenance.

Scenic Drive just celebrated 100 years overlooking El Paso, and therefore the road swirling alongside the Franklin mountains often needs repairs. In this case, Scenic Drive will need to close for half a day to allow for pothole repairs.

Beginning at 6 a.m. today, Friday, November 20, the Streets and Maintenance Department will be on-site, making street repairs from 6 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Motorists who normally use Scenic Drive as part of their route will need to use an alternate route and avoid Scenic Drive all together this morning.

While the pothole maintenance repairs are not expected to last more than one day - The crew’s work schedule may be modified due to weather or other unforeseen events.

Scenic Drive will once again open to the public just in time for Scenic Sundays. On Scenic Sundays, the road is closed to traffic and instead allows runners, joggers, walkers, and cyclists an opportunity to enjoy the site. Scenic Sundays take place from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
