Today is a watershed day in the renovation of the San Jacinto Plaza. Today (3/18/16), marks the 98-percent completion date for the historic park.

Only minor details need to be addressed from this day forward before the park, long considered the heart of Downtown, can be returned to the people.

San Jacinto Plaza project manager Gilbert Guerrero told the El Paso Times the next step is a walk through where the city will point out things that need to be redone or replaced. He cited, for example, "replanting trees on warranty that did not survive the winter and repairing minor damage or scratches to tiles or pavers."

Per the Times, contractors will then have 30 days to complete those tasks. Guerrero anticipates the Plaza will be totally completed and ready for it's official re-opening as early as mid-April.
