El Paso Opera is celebrating the extraordinary life of Frida Kahlo with Frida Fest, a pop-up market, and FRIDA, a new opera in August.
Frida fans, don't miss two immersive events in August centered around the Mexican artist and feminist icon, Frida Kahlo.
The El Paso Opera recently announced its 2022-2023 season lineup featuring "¡Viva la Vida!” an opera celebrating the extraordinary life of Frida Kahlo on stage, along with Frida Fest, a pop-up market showcasing all things Frida Kahlo.
FRIDA Fest With El Paso Opera: (Saturday, August 13, 2022
Join El Paso Opera resident artists as they perform during Frida Fest, a pop-up market featuring Frida-inspired art by local artists, an all-ages look-alike contest, and a screening of FRIDA, starring Salma Hayek at Alamo Drafthouse (East).
- 1:30-2:30 p.m - Pop-Up Market and El Paso Opera Artist Performances will take place in the lobby and bar.
- 3:00 p.m. - FRIDA screening with Q&A (Tickets are available at drafthouse.com)
- 5:45 p.m. - Frida look-alike contest (All ages are welcome to participate)
El Paso Opera Presents FRIDA: (August 27, 2022, at 7:30 pm)
El Paso Opera will bring the phenomenal life of Frida Kahlo to the stage in “¡Viva la Vida!”, starring Catalina Cuervo as Frida Kahlo and Ricardo Herrera as Diego Rivera.
The hauntingly beautiful work, performed in Spanish and English with projected translations in both languages, presents the icon’s life from her teenage embrace of revolutionary politics through to her early death. Through music, monologue, dance and visual spectacle, the opera showcases the major events of Frida’s life that infused her incredible world-altering art, including her stormy love life with fellow artistic firebrand Diego Rivera.
FRIDA will unfold on stage at the Abraham Chavez Theatre, accompanied by a musical fusion of opera, folkloric, mariachi, and Broadway musical theater.
