Old SheepDog Brewery’s 'Macho No Machismo Pachanga & Fundraiser'

So, the thing about growing up in El Paso is that even after you leave the city you always find a way to come back to give back to your hometown. That’s the case for Austin-based author and El Paso native Miguel Briones.

Miguel is an award-winning educator, community organizer, motivational speaker, and acclaimed author of "Como Mi Padrino."

He is set to release his most recent book, "Macho No Machismo,” and he plans to hold a celebration here in El Paso and is inviting the community to this family-friendly celebration.

“This bilingual children's book explores important themes of masculinity, youth, young manhood, and social-emotional health and wellness,” said Briones.

Miguel, along with Know Culture Publishing, will be hosting a special literacy event and fundraiser that promises to bring the community together for a night of fun, learning, and support: The "Macho No Machismo Pachanga and Fundraiser"

The free and family-friendly event is set to take place on October 28, 2023, at Old Sheepdog Brewery, located at 3900 Rosa Ave, El Paso, Texas, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event aims to make a positive impact on the El Paso community and will directly benefit Mija, Yes You Can, an organization dedicated to empowering women, girls, and all individuals striving to uplift and inspire others in their community.

A percentage of all book sales for "Macho No Machismo," will be donated to ‘Mija, yes you can’ who will also have their “Mija Pop-up” available for guests to purchase Mija merchandise.

The “Macho No Machismo Pachanga and Fundraiser” will feature Free Lucha Libre Matches Presented by El Padrino Lucha Libre, a Meet-and-Greet with Lucha Star Dulce Tormenta, as well as raffles and other giveaways including a $150 tattoo voucher from West Texas Tattoo, jewelry from Some Bird of Paradise, Sharethelight puzzle, and more.

Vendors at the event will include, Some Bird of Paradise Jewelry, The Cheat Sheet Podcast, Sharethelight Photography, Carlos Fidel Espinoza Author, Stephanie's Garden, and Jessica’s Tarot.
