New Khalid Lyric Videos Spotlight El Paso Skyline, Locations

Khalid is repping the 915 again.

This time the R&B superstar is shining a light on El Paso in new lyric videos of songs from his breakthrough album “American Teen.”

Each video on “The (915) Visual Playlist” posted on The Great Khalid Facebook highlights scenes and places around El Paso, including one that prominently features El Paso High; one of the oldest, most historic, and architecturally beautiful buildings in town.

Love for the Sun City

From the minute he shot to fame in 2017 with "Location," Khalid has name-checked and repped his adopted hometown in interviews and talk show appearances, on his social media, and in his work; most recently an EP he put out last year titled "Scenic Drive."

Although none of the songs on the extended play are specifically related to or about El Paso -- not even, ironically enough, the title track -- the cover art features Khalid inside a classic car on Scenic Drive, and Khalid walking down S. Mesa Street downtown on the back cover.

The 915 Visual Playlist

The new videos celebrating the 5-year anniversary of “American Teen” is Khalid’s way of not only revisiting all of the songs on the album that shot the Americas High School grad to international fame, but also pay homage to the city he claims.

Speaking to Apple Music's Zane Lowe in December 2021, Khalid had this to say about El Paso:

This is my home. They accept me for who I am. They embrace me, they show me the most love. So, I got to go back and let people know how inspired I am of this city.

I'm a military kid. If you think about it, I don't really have a home anywhere, but home is where you make it. And El Paso has embraced me as if I was one of their own.

American Teen

"American Teen" was released in March of 2017 and was certified 4x Platinum on the fifth anniversary of its release. "Location," the lead single off "American Teen," was certified Diamond in the same week; only the 75th song in music history to do so.

How can you not like a guy who has nothing but love for a city he didn't even move to until his senior year in high school 5 years ago? Thanks for the shine, Khalid.
