Mel Gibson Movie Filmed in Las Cruces Gets July 1 Release Date
The movie Mel Gibson filmed in Las Cruces last fall is set for release on July 1.
You might recall the Gibson flick “Hot Seat” began production the first week of November, 2021, in the parking lot and the inside of the Electronic Caregiver building on Main as well as in and around Young Park.
According to Film Las Cruces, ninety percent of the action movie’s scenes were shot in Las Cruces.
Lethal Gibson
Deadline described the plot of “Hot Seat” this way:
An ex-hacker is forced to break into high-level banking institutions by an anonymous man who planted a bomb under his chair at his office. Gibson plays the man who must try to penetrate the booby-trapped building to get the young man off the hot seat.
If it sounds to you like they took that one scene from “Lethal Weapon 2” where Gibson’s character has to save a terrified Danny Glover from a booby-trapped toilet seat and made a whole movie out of it you are not alone because I thought the same thing, too.
Filmed Here But Not Showing Here
Despite its connection to our area, it doesn't look like any any local movie theaters will be showing it on opening weekend. However, it is available on demand.
Hot Seat also stars Kevin Dillon (Matt’s brother), Sam Asghari (Britney Spears’ man), and Shannen Doherty.

Yippee Ki Yay, Las Cruces
A week before "Hot Seat" began shooting in Las Cruces, Bruce Willis and a film crew took over the Bank of the West parking lot downtown to shoot scenes for a shoot-em up movie titled "Knight."
Kate Bosworth, Tyrese Gibson, Dolph Lundgren
A couple of weeks after filming on "Hot Seat" wrapped, Kate Bosworth and Ryann Phillippe came to town to shoot scenes for their new action movie, “The Locksmith”.
This past February Tyrese Gibson of "The Fast and the Furious" fame shot two movies in Cruces and the Mesilla Valley, and most recently "Expendables" star Dolph Lundgren -- best known for his role as Russian boxer Ivan Drago in "Rocky IV" -- filmed "Wanted Man" in the area.
