Three days after El Paso Mayor Dee Margo and City Council issued an official proclamation naming October Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Northeast City Representative Dr. Samuel Warren Morgan was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife.

I looked it up, and, yes, that is the very definition of irony.

According to a city press release, “Morgan was arrested after officers responded to his residence on a family violence call. The officers arrived and through the investigation found that Morgan had assaulted his wife.”

The El Paso Times obtained the police report which stated his wife told officers in a video statement that, “Morgan had been drinking, became upset and struck her with ‘a right, open hand.’” The report also noted police observed “redness and swelling to the left side of [his wife's'] face."

Days before his arrest on Oct. 4, the mayor and council members, including Representative Morgan, presented Center Against Sexual & Family Violence Executive Director David Chayer with a plaque at the Oct. 1 El Paso City Council Meeting proclaiming the month of October "Domestic Violence Awareness Month."

The proclamation read in part, “And whereas the Center Against Sexual & Family Violence urges all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities and programs to work toward improving victim safety and holding perpetrators of domestic abuse accountable for their actions against individual victims and our society as a whole. Now be it proclaimed by the mayor and council of the city of El Paso that the month of October shall be known as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Signed by our honorable mayor, Dee Margo. "

Your move, Margo. Are you going to go after him as hard as you went after Rep. Hernandez or is that only reserved for those who don’t play by your rules?
