Longtime James Bond Star Roger Moore Dead at 89
Roger Moore, the actor who portrayed iconic suave spy James Bond more than anyone else, has died at the age of 89.
He passed away in Switzerland after battling cancer. Moore's family broke the news on Twitter on Tuesday.
Moore portrayed 007 in seven films, beginning with 1973's Live and Let Die and ending with A View to a Kill in 1985. He was the fourth actor to take the role, following Sean Connery, David Niven and George Lazenby. The 12 years he maintained the part is the longest tenure, along with Daniel Craig, who is currently at a dozen years himself.
Moore embraced his role as Bond and had no problems poking fun at himself for playing the legendary character, a trait never more on display than in the zany 1981 comedy The Cannonball Run.
