Become A Mental Health Hero This Weekend At The El Paso Zoo

If there is one thing you should know about me it’s that I am a strong advocate for Mental Health Awareness. These days it makes me really happy to see that more and more people are able to talk about their mental health freely.

In case you didn’t know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. A month dedicated to bringing awareness to Mental Health and bringing people of all ages together through various events in the community to discuss the importance of mental health awareness.

This weekend kids will have a chance to learn more about Mental Health Awareness and they’ll also have the chance to become a “Mental Health Hero” while spending their day at the best place ever! The El Paso Zoo!

Emergence Health Network is hosting The Children's Mental Health Acceptance Day and Community Resource Fair this Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The El Paso Zoo located at 4001 E. Paisano Drive.

“The mental health fair is an event that is meant to encourage kids and adults to discuss mental health acceptance and wellbeing while learning about all of the various resources available in the El Paso area,” said event officials.

Families will be able to speak to other local community partners about the resources they provide to those dealing with Mental Health issues. Organizations such as NAMI of El Paso, YWCA, and the City of El Paso will be at the event providing information on their services.

Families are encouraged to get to the event early for a chance at getting FREE admission to the zoo. The first 150 kids ages 12 and younger will be able to enter the zoo for free.

Kids are also encouraged to dress in their best superhero costume to prove that they are, in fact, a mental health hero and so they can snap a photo with their favorite superhero that will be at the health fair as well.

Kids will be able spend their Saturday enjoying free rides on the carousel, face paintings and of course, the animals at The El Paso Zoo!
