El Paso’s Khalid Scores MTV VMA Nomination for Best New Artist
Khalid is on fire!
Months after receiving a 2017 BET Awards nomination for Best New Artist, the Americas High graduate has scored another Best New Artist nomination – this time it’s an MTV Video Music Award that he’s up for.
The 19 year old took to Twitter to express his disbelief. “This is so insane, WOW” he wrote. “It's crazy how you can go from watching something countlessly," he added in a separate Tweet, "to eventually being apart of it man I'm so blessed. [sic]”

Khalid, who was born in Georgia and spent six years in Germany, moved here his senior year in high school and considers El Paso his hometown.
Since releasing his debut album, American Teen, in March the R&B sensation has become a rising star in the music world. In addition to his BET nomination, Apple Music named him their Up Next Artist for the month of July.
The single Location, which he’s performed on several television shows including The Late, Late Show with James Corden, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Ellen, has gone platinum. His current tour has sold-out in every city.
Not bad for a 19-year-old just out of high school.
