Predictions for Texas say we have a better than 50% chance that at least 1 hurricane will hit Texas and a 1 in 4 chance it could develop into a really big one.

Obviously, El Paso isn't going to make this list. While hurricane force winds, (74 mph or more), are not unknown around here, we don't get the rain and flooding that come with actual hurricanes. Except for Hurricane Katrina in 2006 ... we felt her.

The Texas coastline is pretty familiar with hurricanes, (in fact, the worst one ever happened in Galveston), and this year it may really see some action. Hurricane season, (June 1 - November 30), this year may be busier than usual due to warmer seas and less "wind shear" which helps break up storms before they get too powerful.

What Can Texas Expect During The 2024 Hurricane Season?

Colorado State University ... the leader in hurricane predictions ... released a very aggressive list of expected hurricanes.

CSU predicts the 2024 season will have 23 named storms, which is 10 more named storms compared to 2023. Out of the 23 named storms, 11 will form into a hurricane. A total of five major hurricanes are predicted to be Category 3 or stronger.

There is a 54% chance a hurricane will strike the Texas coast and a 25% chance a major hurricane will strike the Texas coast. Both those percentages are up from last year. - kxan

How are hurricanes named?

That's actually, kinda complicated. The names for all the projected 2024 hurricanes have been selected and names are often reused.

You can read the 2024 names, learn how they're named and what happens if we run out of names, here.
