Holiday Movies at the Plaza will be spreading George Bailey-style holiday cheer this Saturday, Dec. 18, with a free showing of It’s a Wonderful Life.

Released in 1946, the Jimmy Stewart classic remains one of America's all-time favorite Christmas movies.

I think it’s because its message of hope and family hearkens back to a simpler time when Christmas wasn't so commercialized. And that feeling will be extra nostalgic watching such a classic film in such a historic theater.

Showtime is 2 p.m. It’s a Wonderful Life is the first of two movies that will be shown Saturday as part of the City of El Paso’s Winterfest. The 2003 Christmas-themed romantic comedy Love Actually will screen at 7 p.m.

Holiday Movies at the Plaza are free-to-see and tickets are not required. Seating is on a first come, first served basis so getting there with enough time to find a good seat is highly recommended.

Another incentive to arriving early is getting to watch organists perform holiday music on the original Plaza Mighty Wurlitzer Organ a half hour before each movie.

"Merry Christmas, movie house!"

Phantoms of the Plaza

Maybe you'll have a run-in with a ghost of Christmas past.

The beautiful and majestic Plaza Theatre has long been rumored to be haunted. Built as a movie house in 1930 and almost demolished to make way for a parking lot in the late 80s, the historic venue is now home to concerts, Broadway shows, and other performing arts.

But many say that's not all it is home to. Read more about the haunted happenings inside the Plaza HERE.
