El Paso is no stranger to the epidemic that is... procrastination! Even when it comes to holiday planning.

So, if you’re like me and you leave things to the last minute, Don’t worry, some stores are open to save your Thanksgiving feast!

First, these major retailers WILL NOT be open Thanksgiving Day:

  • Walmart
  • Costco

What is Open Thanksgiving Day:

  • Albertsons: Open! Hours vary, so check online.
  • Big Lots: Open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thanksgiving, and early risers can hit their Black Friday deals at 6 a.m.
  • CVS: Yes, but hours differ by location, and many pharmacies will be closed.
  • Dollar General: Most locations will be open, but confirm hours via their app or website.
  • Kroger: Open until 4 p.m. but check your local store for exact hours.
  • Sprouts: Need fresh veggies? They’ll be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Walgreens: Limited! Only 24-hour locations and select pharmacies will operate.
  • Whole Foods: Open with modified hours—double-check online before you go.

El Paso Closures to Know About:

City administrative offices, libraries, recreation centers, and the El Paso Zoo will all be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28).

There will also be no garbage or recycling collection, but don’t panic—GRAY bin pickup is rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 2.

If you’re relying on public transit, Sun Metro will operate on a Sunday schedule and offer FREE rides for the holiday.

For outdoor lovers, Ascarate Golf Course and County Parks will remain open, but hours vary. Ascarate will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
