Are you a pet lover? Do you want to help out our pet population here in El Paso? Then don't miss the Humane Society of El Paso's annual “Be A Star, Save A Life” telethon from 4 to 11 p.m. August 7 on KVIA. WestStar Bank and GYN Path Services are sponsoring this event and hopes to raise the funds for shelter, foster and healthcare services to animals in our community. The funds will also be used for educational and outreach initiatives. The Humane Society is trying to raise $150,000 to continue their work.

During the telethon, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of the Humane Society. You'll be able to see how your donation can help provide food, shelter, healthcare and socialization opportunities to the animals at the Humane Society, but your money will also go toward educating and engaging the public about the pet population in El Paso.

You can call and make a gift over the phone and even designate your donation to either Team Dog or Team Cat. If you want to text your donation you can do that by texting “Cat” or “Dog” to 915-600-6901. At the end of the night, the hosts will announce which team won and officially declare El Paso a Dog or Cat town. For every $50 that you donate, you'll be entered into a raffle to win prizes that include wine, restaurant gift cards and more.

Deb Benedict, Executive Director for the Humane Society of El Paso expressed her gratitude for the support and generosity of El Pasoans for their continued support of the Humane Society. Benedict said that support allows the Society to serve the animals with compassionate care on a daily basis, something that would not be possible without the support of the El Paso community.
