German Tradition in El Paso: Biers, Cheers, and Brats at Fort Bliss Oktoberfest 2023
Just because we’re a world away from Germany doesn’t mean you can’t properly celebrate Oktoberfest.
The Fort Bliss community is hosting its annual autumnal celebration, so a trip to the Northeast is as far as you have to go to get your Oktoberfest fix of German polka music, bratwurst, pretzels, and steins of bier.

Why is Oktoberfest in September?
Given the name, one would think Oktoberfest would happen in October. And it did way back in the day when it first began in Germany, and still kind of does according to Readers Digest.
Along the way it become such a big deal that “the starting dates were moved into September because the days were longer and the weather was warmer.”
Fort Bliss Oktoberfest 2023
Biggs Park on Fort Bliss will double for Deutschland on Friday and Saturday, September 22-23, 2023. The event never fails to sell out so buying tickets in advance is the smart move.
And it’s not just for military folks. The event is open to the entire community. The evening events are adult-only party nights so you must be at least 18 to attend and 21 to hoist a stein.
A Community Access Pass is required to enter the base. The pass gives you access to many of the family-friendly activities on Ft. Bliss for one year. More on how to obtain one can be found HERE.
