Gavin Rossdale Shares Regrets Over Gwen Stefani Divorce, Alleged Infidelity
Gwen Stefani's been conducting a highly public romance with her sometime fellow The Voice coach Blake Shelton for at least a year; meanwhile, Stefani's ex-husband Gavin Rossdale discussed their divorce in a recent interview, saying it was "was completely opposite to what I wanted."
In an interview with UK tabloid The Sun, the "Glycerine" singer discussed the end of his 13-year marriage to Stefani, which was reportedly sparked by Stefani's discovery that Rossdale was having a longtime affair with their children's nanny. Despite his alleged infidelities, Rossdale told paper that divorce wasn't where he hoped things would go.
“[Divorce] was completely opposite to what I wanted. Really not…” he sighs and stares at the floor.
“But here we are.
“Apart from death, I think divorce is one of the hardest, most painful things to go through.”
As rocky as the split has been for Rossdale, he said that co-parenting their three children Kingston, Zuma and Apollo is going smoothly. "The one thing — the only good thing, because everything else is not good — is we care about the children and it’s about them. So we do everything to make this life change as seamless as possible."
When asked if he wish he'd "behaved differently" — i.e., not had any extramarital affairs while married to Gwen — Rossdale told the Sun, "I mean, obviously. I know we all wish that, but we can’t, so I have to deal with reality. You can’t not have regrets and be human at the same time."
"There are lots of scenarios [I’d like to change]. I’d like to have had 10 No.1s in England, but unfortunately I can’t rewrite my career," Rossdale, who has a new job on The Voice UK this year, said.
"We had 20 years together and that in itself is pretty incredible. It’s a lifetime. I still think she’s incredible," the '90s rocker continued. "It was a lovely 20 years and we have three amazing children. There were a lot of positives, and with time they'll become more and more obvious."
