Former UTEP quarterback Kai Locksley is back playing professional football.

The Edmonton Elks signed Locksley and linebacker Matthew Thomas on Wednesday, per the football team.

The former Miner dual-threat quarterback played in El Paso during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Upon graduating from the program, Miami invited Locksley to training camp and converted him to wide receiver. He was released as the club trimmed down the roster to 52 players.

With the Miners, Locksley appeared in 20 games where he completed 186-of-250 passes for 2,266 yards, nine touchdowns and 14 interceptions, while rushing for 875 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Prior to UTEP, Locksley was the top junior college player across the country at Iowa Western Community College (2017). He was a former 4-star prospect out of high school and originally played at Texas during his freshman year.

He is the third former Miner in the Canadian Football League, joining linebackers Alvin Jones (Saskatchewan Roughriders) and Nick Usher (Montreal Alouettes).

Other non-NFL players that played at UTEP include safety Justin Rogers (Europe Hamburg Sea Devils) and defensive back Devin Cockrell (Indoor Football League, Arizona Rattlers).
