Football Friday Night Recap: Week Two Wrap Up

Week two of high school football is in the books. While expectations were high for a competitive slate of games, there were a bunch of blowouts across the board in El Paso.

Eastlake 37 - Canutillo 14: Eastlake’s Uribe leads Falcons to Impressive Win at Canutillo

In what will go down as one of the most impressive first half performances by a player in El Paso high school football history, Eastlake do-it-all player Elijah Uribe exploded to lead his team to a 37-14 win at Canutillo.

The Falcons got their bag of tricks out at the 8:05 mark of the first quarter as Uribe took a pitch from QB Sebastian Rendon and tossed a 36-yard TD pass to WR Isaiah Chavez on the razzle dazzle Shtick play.

Uribe was just getting started as he showcased his lightning quick speed on the next Eastlake possession with a stunning 66-yard TD run to put the Falcons up 14-0. At the 8:35 mark of second quarter Uribe caught a 49-yard TD to give the Falcons a 21-0 edge.

To put the cherry on top of a memorable half for Uribe, he took a hook and ladder and threw a 67-yard TD pass to WR Anthony Moreno with :39 seconds left in the period to give Eastlake a commanding 31-7 edge at the half.

The Falcons’ stingy D would only allow one more Canutillo score throughout the second half en route to the 37-14 victory. The Jack of all trades Elijah Uribe finished with 4 total touchdowns, two passing (36 and 67 yards), one receiving TD (49-yards) and one rush TD on 18 carries for 124 yards. Canutillo’s one bright spot was RB LJ Martin, who finished with 20 carries for 113 yards.

The Andress Golden Eagles ran their record to 2-0 by holding off the Parkland Matadors 24-20 Friday night at Matador Stadium. Andress running back Malachi Do scored on touchdown runs of 85 and 35 yards and added 169 yards on 20 carries. Quarterback Elias Duncan was 7-11 for 178 yards passing, along with 72 yards rushing on 7 carries. Malcom Anderson had a 98 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the rain-delayed contest and Jonathon Reta Robles kicked a 21 yard field goal. Parkland's Isaiah Beasley had a pair of touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, on 19 yards and 1 yard. Beasley rushed for 134 yards on 18 carries. Andress hosts Franklin next Friday while Parkland, 0-2, takes on Eastlake at the SAC.

Chapin 39 - Coronado 7: Huskies overpower Thunderbirds with ease

The Chapin defense took advantage of Coronado’s quarterback injury woes and dominated the T-Birds en route to a 39-7 victory Friday night.

The Huskies, who improved to 1-1, limited the T-Birds (0-2) to just 114 yards of total offense, and were pitching a shutout until Coronado scored its only touchdown with two minutes left in the game.

Because of the injury to starting senior quarterback Tristen Escobedo, Coronado was forced to play three different sophomore quarterbacks in the contest. The three combined for only three completions for 18 yards.

Chapin, on the other hand, was led by senior quarterback Mason Sanderfer, who completed 13 of his 20 passes for 213 yards and four touchdowns.

Two of those scores were thrown to Tim Pastran and another went to his brother, Hunter Sanderfer, who led the team with six catches for 58 yards.

The Huskies also picked up 194 yards on the ground, led by hard-running Jacob Williamson, who gained 65 yards and a touchdown. Mason Sanderfer ran for another 58 yards and tailback Maurice Jenkins chipped in 54 yards and a touchdown.

Chapin is at home next Friday against Canutillo (1-1) while Coronado travels to Carlsbad (1-1).

Del Valle 45 - Pebble Hills 31: Del Valle offense overpowers Pebble Hills

Three touchdowns on three big plays. That's the story for Del Valle's convincing 45-31 win against Pebble Hills on Friday night. Senior running back Kristian Martinez had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Conquistadores, including a 73-yard blast for a score. Quarterback Jesse Ramos scored four total touchdowns—two passing, two rushing—and wideout Brandon Tellez had a 60-yard receiving touchdown on a receiver screen.

Pebble HIills relied on their ground game with quarterback Gael Ochoa (two rushing touchdowns) and running back Erik Marin. However, they failed to capitalize on scoring drives and fell behind early. They played catch-up the majority of the second half and tried to attempt a comeback. Del Valle's lead was too difficult to overcome and the Conquistadores were able to secure their second win of the season.

Del Valle (2-0) hosts Americas (0-2) next week, while Pebble Hills (0-2) squares off against El Dorado (0-2) next Friday.
