‘Fallout’ Series NEEDS To Go To TEXAS
If youve been watching the Fallout series on Amazon Prime, you might not know the show was based on a video game series that has been to quite a few states after the war, but they have yet to explore Texas! The show follows the same basic ideas as the games and has even been praised so far as one of the best tv show adaptations of a game, which is a HUGE achievement. Ask any passionate gamer and they'll tell ya, video game movies and tv shows are usually GARBAGE.
Game Lore
In the games, the US is in kind of a different universe. For instance, its mentioned very briefly that Texas and Arkansas joined up to form The Texas Commonwealth and that Texas itself was annexed from the US before the bombs dropped. So the history isnt spot on. Another example is that the games are set to a retro style spanning from the 1920s to the 1950s but the bombs drop in the year 2077. Through out the games, Texas isnt really brought up much but the stuff the games say about The Lone Star State make us think it would be a pretty cool game or even a cool setting for later in the Amazon Prime show.
The Fallout video game series TECHNICALLY has 8 games, unfortunately the one that actually does take place in Texas has been removed from the canon of the series. Mostly because the game had so many inconsistencies with the history of the previous games that the game creators, Bethesda, decided it didnt really fit with the rest of the games. Texas has been mentioned here and there but nothing extensive, we know enough that Texas could make a pretty cool setting for this post-apocalyptic setting.
States In The Games
So far, only a handful of the US post-war has been explored.
- Fallout 1: California and parts of Nevada
- Fallout 2: Cali, Oregon, Nevada
- Fallout 3: Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, The District of Columbia, and a simulation of Alaska
- Fallout: New Vegas: Nevada, Cali, Arizona, Utah
- Fallout 4: Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Maine
- Fallout 76: West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey
- Fallout Tactics: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado
The last game to mention would be the one that is no longer part of the official canon so its not worth putting in here, which kind of sucks because that game actually does take place in what would have been Texas.
Texas Would Be A COOL Setting
The things mentioned throughout the games about Texas are so interesting, one of the main things that would be very neat to see is the evolution of the Texas Rangers. In one game, a main character mentions that the group they run with, The Desert Rangers, expanded from The Texas Rangers and The Desert Rangers have a huge presence in most of the southwest.
The game also mentions that one of its big weapons manufacturers, Red Raptor Firearms, has a headquarters located in Texas, which could be a very dangerous and challenging place to visit in game.
Not much more is mentioned but it does seem like the way the games play out, Texas could be a crazy place to find new types of monsters roaming the wastelands, explore new cultures that have evolved post-war, and see what exactly has become of The Lone Start State after the nukes have fallen! After all, the most popular game in the series, Fallout: New Vegas, kept up a huge southwestern vibe and I think bringing that style back to the series by placing right in the heart of Atomic Texas, could be a solid move.
