EPISD Officials Announce Extension Of Fall Intercession

El Paso City and County officials have been raising the red flag about the sudden sharp rise in COVID-19 numbers, both deaths and new infections, as well a rise in the numbers of hospitalizations. Apparently local school districts are taking their warnings seriously. The Socorro Independent School District and now the El Paso Independent School District have announced on Wednesday afternoon a change in their Fall Intercession schedules.

EPISD says they will extend their intersession until October 23. That means that all students and staff who are currently on break will not go back to work or to instruction until October 26. EPISD had scheduled two intersession breaks in this year's school calendar, one this month and one in the spring in March. As with all of us, district officials knew that the calendar would most likely need to be changed with whatever the news was in the way of COVID numbers.

EPISD and a number of other El Paso area school districts have submitted a waiver to the Texas Education Agency to allow them to be able to stay on a remote learning course until health conditions improve locally. El Paso ISD officials are still waiting approval by the TEA and EPISD Board of Trustees.

If your child plays on an EPISD sports team, is in the fine arts program, or is a part of other extra-curricular activities, those activities will continue for the time being per UIL guidelines, but don't be surprised if those activities are also affected by the rising numbers.
