The El Paso Locomotive FC announced that they will play their first two games at Southwest University Park without any fans in the stands.

After initially expecting to be able play games in front of a 25 percent capacity crowd, the Locomotive made the decision to forego having fans in attendance altogether for their first two scheduled home games after observing that local coronavirus cases continue to rise.

The Locos will play Rio Grande Valley FC at home on Saturday, July 11 with their next home game scheduled against New Mexico United on Wednesday, July 15.  While fans won’t be in attendance, the games will be televised live by both the El Paso/Las Cruces CW Channel and ESPN+.

Some fans will still be able to make their present felt though as those that signed up to be “Cardboard Conductors” will have their likeness placed on cardboard cutouts throughout the stands at Southwest University Stadium.  It’s a great opportunity for those conductors to watch the game and try to spot themselves in the stands.  Those interested in getting their cardboard cutout placed at the stadium for Locomotive home games, can still do so by clicking here.

As of now, team officials are hoping to be able to welcome fans back to Southwest University Park on July 24.  For more information, you can find the Locomotive’s statement by clicking here.
