El Pasoans Will Have Feathered Fun at Great American Duck Race in Deming
Are you up for a road-trip adventure of food, fun, and fast ducks?
Then Deming, New Mexico is where you will want to be the weekend of August 25 for The Great American Duck Race.
Fowl play is in the forecast for the family-friendly Great American Duck Race as it celebrates its 44th Anniversary in typical fun-loving fashion: a daily carnival, a parade, hot air balloons, live music, and of course, the famous duck races for which the festival is named after.
Among the quazy and fun activities El Pasoans who make the roughly one-and-a-half-hour drive will be treated to include the Great American Tortilla Toss, and the Great American Outhouse Race.
Here’s what else quackers who flock to Deming for the New Mexico summer tradition can experience:
Hot Air Balloons
The Great American Duck Race combines live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities with the beauty of colorfully painted hot air balloons.
Early Saturday and Sunday morning -- August 26 and 27 -- dozens of muti-colored, lighter-than-air balloons will take flight in a mass ascension from the Deming Soccer Field, weather permitting.
Tournament of Ducks Parade
Decorated floats, cars, trucks, bikes, and tractors will glide through downtown Deming Saturday, August 26, at 10 a.m. as part of a good old-fashioned parade. Beauty queens, dignitaries, and people in duck costumes are sure to waddle along
Duck Races
Hundreds of speedy ducks will race for cash prizes over the weekend.
Daytime and evening duck races begin Saturday at noon and wrap up Sunday, August 27, around 3 p.m. at the Luna County Courthouse Park.
