
El Paso, Texas Opens Free Cooling Centers as Temps Hit Scorching Highs
Alright El Paso, we’ve been here before. What am i talking about? HOT SUMMERS!! And If you’ve walked outside lately and felt like you were being roasted like a rotisserie chicken, you’re not alone.
Because of the heat, The City of El Paso in collaboration with the Office of Emergency Management and other local agencies is opening cooling centers across the city, and yes—they’re air-conditioned and FREE.
These indoor spots are your official excuse to take a break from the heat outside. The City teamed up with Parks and Rec, the Public Libraries, and the Extreme Weather Task Force to keep everyone cool and to prevent any heat related illnesses for those who may not have proper air conditioning at home.
Rec centers open Mon–Thurs (9a–8p), Fri–Sat (9a–2p), closed Sun:
- Valle Bajo (7380 Alameda)
- Marty Robbins (11600 Vista Del Sol)
- Galatzan (650 Wallenberg)
- Nations Tobin (8831 Railroad)
Libraries open various hours, Main Library open on Sundays from 1 pm - 6 pm
The list of libraries below will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Officials also suggest that people visit local Malls and shopping centers to beat the heat.
Remember, heat exhaustion and heat stroke are no joke. If you’re dizzy, nauseous, sweating buckets, or your skin’s gone pale and clammy—don’t tough it out. Call 911 and get to a cool place, fast.
Stay hydrated, check on your abuelita, and stay inside if you can.
