One of the sweet benefits of being a teacher is having summers off. Not so sweet and definitely in the minus column is having to spend your own money on school supplies.

According to the most recent study by the National Center of Education Statistics, 94 percent of teachers spend money on their own supplies. A separate survey, this one by the National School Supply and Equipment, shows teachers spend on average $485 on pencils, crayons and other basic supplies each year.

As we inch closer to another school year, El Paso teachers will be happy to know Target is offering your wallets some relief all this week -- 15 percent off select classroom supplies in store and online through July 21.

According to a post on the retailers website, “select classroom supplies” include notebooks, folders and binders, hand sanitizer, and “writing supplies.” To confirm your eligibility and receive a coupon, verify your teaching status online here.
