El Paso Surgeon Testifies About Trying To Save Walmart Mass Shooting Victims

On August 3, 2019, a man walked into the Cielo Vista Walmart and opened fire, killing 22 people and wounding 27 others. He shattered the peace we usually live in here in El Paso, but he did not destroy it.

While El Pasoans were reeling with the knowledge that a mass shooting was taking place in our city, doctors were trying to save the lives of the victims. The doctors and nurses who took care of the victims also had to come to terms with the limitations of what they could do because of the extent of the wounds the victims suffered.

The doctor in this clip is the man who tried to save the life of Jordan Anchondo, the young mother who died while trying to shield her infant son from the bullets being fired at them. The horrifying wounds she suffered should never befall anyone.

Jordan gave her life for her child on August 3. This doctor will probably never be the same after he desperately tried to save her. No one should ever have to go through this kind of horror again. We can only hope that those who survived and those who helped them can find their way back to a normal life.
