A new season of El Paso Rhinos Hockey is coming and with the hockey season comes hockey players from all across the nation who will be calling El Paso home for the season.

El Paso Rhinos officials are reaching out to the community to ask local families for help when it comes to making sure Rhinos hockey players have a place to call home while they’re in the borderland for the season.

“Much like a foreign exchange program, players from all over the world stay with host families throughout the hockey season,” said El Paso Rhinos officials.

Gustavo Reveles has participated in the Rhino Billeting program for years now.

“On paper, you are tasked with housing and supporting these young men for a season as they chase their hockey dreams,” said Reveles. “But ultimately, you end up welcoming them into your family and they become lifelong relatives that will forever impact your life.”

Rhinos players are between the ages of 17 and 21. Team officials ask that families provide players with a comfortable space between September and April.

Families are asked to provide players with three meals a day and a room furnished with a dresser, bed, and storage space for hanging clothes.

“The Rhino organization is responsible for ensuring that players have transportation to
and from games, practices, and team events,” said team officials.

Officials ask that families who participate in the Rhinos billeting program treat the players as part of their family and in return, families will receive a stipend for each player per month and complimentary Rhino tickets to all games.

If this seems like something you and your family are interested in doing, you are invited to attend the Rhinos’ free exhibition games on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7 pm and Sunday, Sept. 4 at 1 pm to meet players and experience what it’s like to be part of the Rhino family.

If you would like more information on the program you can call 915-526-8506 or email housing@elpasorhinos.com.
