How crappy is staying home and not seeing your friends and family? Pretty darned crappy if you ask me. My oldest son Ryan and his three daughters all live in Austin and they usually come to El Paso for Spring Break. If we weren't in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak, I would be getting ready to welcome my granddaughters to El Paso for a month this summer.

But no. Instead we are staying home and making do with FaceTime like so many other families. We talk every day and I gotta tell you, I'm so glad that we have social media and the ability to speak to each other via a camera in real time. It's a real blessing. But what happens if you just have to see your kid because it's their birthday? What happens if you kid lives in Austin and you live in El Paso?

Well, you could do what this dad did:

Can you imagine driving for hours across Texas all by yourself to see your daughter on her birthday and then, because you don't want your daughter to possibly get sick, you won't go inside her apartment or hug her? Well, that's what dad's do. They show their beasties how much they love them, they protect them, and they drive across Texas to do it.

I can't leave to go see my beasties in Austin because I'm working, but I love this dad. His daughter will never forget her amazing coronavirus outbreak birthday.I can't leave to go see my beasties in Austin because I'm working, but I love this dad. His daughter will never forget her amazing coronavirus outbreak birthday. I just want to air hug both of them because they are adorable as hell.

And I want to thank my son Ryan for staying at home even though he knows I would crawl across broken glass to see him and my granddaughters. I will soon. We'll all be seeing our families and friends soon. Just hold on a little longer and we'll get through this.

Air hugs to you all.
