El Paso Goalie Logan Ketterer Comes up Huge for Portland Timbers

If you followed the El Paso Locomotive last year you know the name Logan Ketterer. He came up huge in the team's deep playoff run. It felt like every single game ended up going to penalty kicks. Well, at least all the playoff games ended up in penalty kicks. They made it through the first couple of rounds against FC Tulsa and New Mexico United before losing to Phoenix Rising FC.

Ketterer was recently called up to the Portland Timbers, thanks to the Extreme Hardship rule. The Timbers were short on goalies, so they were able to bring Ketterer up and man, did he step up huge. Just watch this PK stop he made. Taking the penalty kick for San Jose was Major League Soccer all-time leading scorer, Chris Wondolowski.

Not only did Ketterer make this huge PK save, he also pitched a shut out for the game. After the game, Ketterer said:

Unfortunately I’ve gotten into my own element a little bit seeing a lot of penalties in the past year or two. It certainly helped as I’ve had plenty of experiences to draw on. The most important thing to think about as a goalkeeper is that you’re not expected to make the save so there’s really nothing that can go wrong. All you can do is push as hard as you can and make sure you don’t go off the line early. It was a great moment for me.

Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese had nothing but praise for the Locomotive and head coach Mark Lowry.

I have to say thank you to El Paso [Locomotive FC], say thank you to their coach Mark Lowry, because they were able to allow us to be able to have a goalkeeper that we needed today.

The best part of this move is it doesn't matter who he's playing for, I get to root for Logan Ketterer. Although, according to Mark Lowry, this is a short term thing.
