According to the El Paso Times, El Paso Deputy Peter Herrera is currently in critical but stable condition after being shot several times, including in the head. The deputy was shot during a routine traffic stop about 1 a.m. Friday, March 22nd. During the stop in the area of the 1000 block of Chicken Ranch Road near Socorro Road in San Elizario, an individual in the car got out of it and started firing at Deputy Herrera. No shots were fired by the deputy.

The two suspects and the gun were found.
