Internet Personality Makes Border Wall Volleyball Match a Reality in El Paso
Alright, so how many times have you heard someone jokingly say, “Maybe we should use the border wall as a volleyball net!?” Ok, maybe you’ve never heard it BUT don’t act like the thought hasn’t crossed your mind!
Earlier this month, internet personality Skweezy Jibbs put that idea out into the universe (and the internet), inviting residents of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez to join him for a friendly volleyball match at the border wall and Tuesday morning, that idea officially became a reality when he stopped by El Paso while on his U.S. Movie tour.
Who Is Skweezy Jibbs?
Before we get into the details on this pretty historic volleyball game, you might be wondering who Skweezy Jibbs is. For those unfamiliar with the man behind the viral moment, Skweezy Jibbs is the comedic alter ego of comedian, writer, actor, and radio personality Tim Savage.
Skweezy is known for his backward baseball cap, intentionally chaotic spelling, and absurd internet adventures. He has built a massive online following by blending outrageous humor with surprisingly wholesome messages and one of those messages happened right here in our hometown.
How an Internet Personality Turned the Border Wall Into a Volleyball Court
After Skweezy’s online invite to his followers, a small group of El Pasoans gathered on the U.S. side of the border while a willing participant named Miguel stood on the Mexican side.
When Skweezy spotted Miguel near the wall, he asked if he would be interested in playing volleyball across the international boundary. Miguel quickly agreed, and just like that, an international volleyball game was underway.
Using the border wall as the net, players tossed the ball back and forth while onlookers cheered from both sides. The match even received the unofficial blessing of U.S. Border Patrol agents nearby, who watched the unusual game unfold.
The friendly competition continued until an unfortunate but predictable ending: the volleyball eventually landed in a drainage ditch, bringing the game to a close.
Ryan Sakellakos, a photographer based in Las Cruces, showed up to the border wall volleyball match and was able to snap a few photos of the historic event.
Meeting Skweezy was definitely a great time since I’ve been a follower of him for awhile. He was a very nice and chill guy, the people out there were really awesome and overall it was a cool event that happened and I’m glad I got to be apart of it and document it.
Ryan shared a group shot on his Instagram account that featured Miguel on one side of the border wall in Juarez and everyone else who showed up in El Paso to play a simple game of Volleyball. (In triple digit heat might I add, that’s dedication!)

A moment that was about more than a game of volleyball
Miguel later shared a video of the experience on Instagram, reflecting on the unique moment.
"Today I met some truly amazing people," Miguel wrote. "Because at the border, we are all one."
He also thanked Skweezy for organizing the event, adding, "We played a friendly game of volleyball, using the border wall as the net! Thank you, @skweezy4real, for bringing everyone together. You put together a great match. Next time, it'll be even bigger and better."
While the volleyball game may not have lasted long, it created a memorable moment that highlighted something many Borderland residents already know: despite a wall dividing two countries, the communities of El Paso and Juárez will always find ways to connect.
Cool. Now I’m crying. Thanks Skweezy for bringing some positive news to our social media news feeds.
