An El Paso, Texas barber understands that for kids, getting that perfect haircut is important, but for many children on the spectrum, a simple haircut can be a struggle which is why he has continued providing his sensory friendly haircuts for local students.

“It can be stressful when you go to other barber shops and there’s a lot more people there and it’s loud,” said Edgar ‘Scissorhands’ a barber at The Gentlemen's Barbershop, “Here, we cater to the children. They want to look good on their first day so that’s what I’m here for. To make these kids feel good about themselves.”

Parents who take their child to get a haircut can expect an environment that caters to their child’s sensory needs. This includes dimming the lights, making sure there is not loud music or sounds, and other things that parents request.

Edgar encourages parents to reserve their spot for their child ahead of time by clicking here.

“Sensory friendly haircuts are such a huge need for the Autism community here in town and once we partnered with Edgar it's just amazing to have that opportunity of inclusivity in our city,” said Aime Phillips, Board secretary for Autism Hope of El Paso. “It’s so important for the autistic community to feel important, needed, to feel heard and to feel safe.”
