Earl of Sandwich Opening First El Paso Location In Far East
Hear ye, hear ye! Eastsiders who love their sandwiches will soon have a royal choice.
Earl of Sandwich, which claims to make the greatest hot sammies in the world, is getting ready to open its first El Paso location on the far east side of town.
History of the Sandwich
The sandwich is arguably one of America’s most popular lunchtime meals. While all most of us know about our favorite sandwich is how delicious it is, there’s a bit of royal history behind its invention.
According to the company website, this is the story of the birth of the convenient hand-held meal:
As legend has it, in 1762, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, invented the meal that changed dining forever. It is said he was playing cards and did not want to leave the gaming table to eat. He asked for a serving of roast beef to be placed between two slices of bread so he could eat with his hands.
Some 250 years later, the “World’s Greatest Hot Sandwich” chain was founded by another Lord John Montagu; this one the 11th Earl of Sandwich and a direct descendant of the 4th Earl of Sandwich himself.
Where on the Far East Side and When Will It Open?
The first Earl of El Paso is located at 3851 N. Zaragoza in the Paseo Real I & II shopping center.
The company website currently reads "coming soon" but per a Google search result search, Earl of Sandwich hopes to be putting one of their "made-to-order, freshly baked sandwich like no other" in your hand beginning July 1.
Along with an assortment of signature hot sandwiches, the menu also offers salads, wraps, baked desserts, and soups.
