Domestic Partner Benefits – The West Wing Edition

I loves, loves, loves me The West Wing.  I used to DVR every episode when it was in re-runs on Bravo.  Sadly, they are not running anymore, thank heaven for youtube!  When President Obama was elected, I wrote that I hoped that his administration would be as sharp and witty and effective as the Bartlett administration of The West Wing.  There are a lot of problems still on his plate, but you gotta hand it to the President, he played it cool during a real-life crisis with as much aplomb as Martin Sheen ever did in his fake White House.  But I digress.....

The issue of domestic partner benefits was front and center Sunday night on Xtra.  Darren's guests were City Rep. Steve Ortega, who voted to restore the benefits that were taken away by voters last November, and Pastor Tom Brown.  His group, El Pasoans for Traditional Family Values, is the group that started the whole fight over domestic partner benefits.  I wrote about the benefits battle when it first heated up, I even questioned whether or not the morality police would come after me for having been married and divorced three times.  But what I really want to know was asked best in this scene from, and here's where we come full circle, The West Wing.  The clip is a little long, but it's best to see the whole scene.
