Residents of several Mission Valley neighborhoods will have a new place to play basketball, thanks to the latest project to enhance El Paso’s quality of life by improving Yucca Park.

The City of El Paso will officially open a new basketball court at Yucca Park basketball at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. This project is the second phase of a planned development to add amenities to this highly-used park. Festivities will include a basketball free-throw contest, mariachis, and refreshments.

The $141,000 construction project is funded by the 2012 Quality of Life Bonds and was built next to the existing basketball court in the southeast corner of the park. The project also includes the resurfacing of the existing basketball with anti-slip surface, additional lighting, pathways, and park benches near the court.

The project compliments other amenities recently constructed at the park, including a human-sized chess courtyard, new walkways, and landscaping, in the northern portion of the park.
