City Of El Paso Holding Tributes For Victims Of Uvalde On Sunday
The El Paso community can come together to honor the victims of the Uvalde, Texas, mass shooting with various tributes across the city this weekend.
This Sunday, May 29, beginning at 8:30 p.m., the City of El Paso will hold several tributes simultaneously in memory of the 21 souls killed and the seventeen others wounded during the horrific mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
El Pasoans will have the opportunity to come together to mourn in solidarity for the Uvalde community, including a moment of silence at Ponder Park, lighting the star on the mountain, and the opportunity to electronically sign a condolences book, all in honor of the 19 children and two teachers who perished on May 24.
Lighting Of The Star On The Mountain
On Sunday, the Star on the Mountain will light up beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Unite With Light
The El Paso community is encouraged to light up their residences by lighting a candle or luminarias and turning on their porch or front yard lights at 8:30 p.m.
Public Art Lighting
Several public art installations will also be illuminated in blue in honor of the victims, including the art installation encircling the Abraham Chavez Theater and the public art along I-10 and Airway.
The El Paso International Airport terminal and landscaping lights will also be illuminated blue in unity with Uvalde. The public can also visit the lights and walk or drive along the path of the El Paso International Airport terminal and landscaping lights which will light up on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
Moment Of Silence at Ponder Park
Mayor Pro Temp Peter Svarzbein and Rep. Cassandra Hernandez invite the community to come together in a solemn moment of silence at Ponder Park, 7500 W. H. Burges, near the Walmart August 3 mass shooting memorial.
Condolences Book
Visitors will also have the opportunity to add their names to an electronic condolence book via a QR code.
El Pasoans can also contribute to the verified fundraisers and a memorial fund benefiting the families of the victims and survivors of the Uvalde tragedy.
